Dr. Akshita Gupta, a native of Chandigarh, is a remarkable example of dedication and achievement. Her father, Pawan Gupta, serves as the Principal of a Senior Secondary School in Panchkula, while her mother, Meena Gupta, is a Mathematics lecturer at a Government Senior Secondary School.
In a nation where both medicine and the civil services are revered as prestigious career paths, few have the distinction of excelling in both. Dr. Akshita Gupta is one such exceptional individual who has not only earned her medical degree but also cracked the UPSC, joining the ranks of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
Dr. Akshita Gupta began her UPSC journey during her third year of medical school, balancing the demanding responsibilities of a doctor with her civil services preparation. While working 14-hour shifts at a hospital, she would squeeze in study sessions during her 15-minute breaks. Her dedication paid off when she cleared the UPSC exam on her first attempt in 2020, securing an impressive All India Rank of 69.
Adopting a holistic approach to her preparation, Akshita concentrated on areas where she felt less confident. She devised a unique strategy by tearing out pages from her medical textbooks that were relevant to the UPSC syllabus. “It was tough to tear up my books, but it was necessary. I organized the pages into chapters so I wouldn’t have to create notes from scratch. This method helped me prepare for the medical science optional,” she revealed in an interview.
