Bureaucrats Magazine – Senior IPS officer Alok Sharma was appointed director of the Special Protection Group on Friday. An order issued by the Personnel Ministry said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment as SPG Director with effect from the date of assumption of charge till further orders. IPS officer Sharma is currently serving as Additional Director General in SPG.

Bureaucrats Magazine – Who is Alok Sharma?…Alok Sharma, born in 1966, is a resident of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He joined the Indian Police Service in 1991. He has served on many important posts in Uttar Pradesh. Before his appointment as Additional Director General of SPG in 2021, he served as IG in SPG.

It provides security only to the Prime Minister of India and his family members who live with him at his official residence. Earlier it also provided security to former Prime Ministers, but now they are given Z Plus security cover.
