Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das (Retd IAS: 1980: TN) has been appointed as Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister of India. His tenure will remain co-terminus with the Prime Minister’s term or until further orders. He will serve alongside Dr. P.K. Mishra, who continues as Principal Secretary-1.
Das recently concluded his extended tenure as the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on December 10, 2024, passing the baton to Sanjay Malhotra (IAS: 1990: RJ), the former Revenue Secretary and now the 26th RBI Governor.
A seasoned bureaucrat with an extensive background in economic policymaking, Das previously held key roles in the Ministry of Finance, including as Finance Secretary Designate, where he played a pivotal role in shaping India’s fiscal and economic strategies.
His appointment brings a wealth of expertise in monetary policy, fiscal governance, and financial regulation, further strengthening the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in critical decision-making processes
