Sonia Sethi, additional metropolitan commissioner of MMRDA, has taken the additional charge of the post of metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA.
Senior IAS officer Sonia Sethi has been given additional charge as the Metropolitan Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Sethi, a 1994-batch IAS officer, is currently serving as the Additional Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA.
According to an order issued by MMRDA on Tuesday, “Sonia Sethi, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, has taken on the additional charge of Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.”
Sethi joined MMRDA on February 20, 2019, as the Additional Metropolitan Commissioner. Before this role, she was the Additional Director General, Foreign Trade, Department of Commerce. She has also served as Transport Commissioner and Secretary of Maharashtra Jeevan Vikas Pradhikaran.
Additionally, Sethi has held significant positions such as Joint Managing Director of City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), Navi Mumbai, and Managing Director of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
The decision follows the retirement of R.A. Rajeev, who was serving as the Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA. Rajeev reached the age of superannuation on February 28, 2021. However, the state government extended his tenure on a contractual basis for three months, which ended on May 31, 2021.
Sources indicate that the extension was granted to ensure the completion of key projects such as the Mumbai Metro corridors and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Project, which are being executed by MMRDA. Rajeev’s extensive knowledge and experience were crucial in overseeing these ambitious projects.
