Bureaucrats Magazine – Shri Alam holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Aligarh Muslim University. Having joined the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1991 after securing All India 12th Rank, Shri Alam was allotted to Nagaland State Cadre. He has worked in Phek and Mon districts at subdivisional level and as Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang District for about three years during the 1990s. At the state Government level, Shri Alam has worked as Additional Secretary Finance and later as Secretary heading the department of Industries, Commerce & Sericulture. On his deputation to the Central Government beginning 2003, Shri Alam worked as the Zonal head in the Directorate General of Foreign Trade for about a year and then as Private Secretary of a senior Cabinet Minister in charge of fertilizers, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and steel for five years.
Bureaucrats Magazine – On his return to the state of Nagaland in 2010, Shri Alam has served as Home Commissioner as well as the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). From April 2013 onwards, Shri Alam worked in the Central Government as Joint Secretary in the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of HRD where he looked after the affairs of Central schools ie Kendriya Vidayalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), National Council of Educational Research & Training (NCERT), Implementation of Mid Day Meal Scheme and the vast Teacher Education sector including the affairs of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) among others. August 2016 till his return to Nagaland in February 2020, he worked as Joint Secretary and later as Additional Secretary in Ministry of Minority Affairs dealing with matters related to socio economic development of the six religious minorities of the country.
Bureaucrats Magazine – On his return to Nagaland in Feb 2020, Shri Alam joined as the Addl Chief Secretary to CM and as Development Commissioner Nagaland. Since 29th Jan 2021, Shri Alam is working as the Chief Secretary Nagaland.
Bureaucrats Magazine – The inaugural programme of the training module for senior officers on State Policy: Formulation, Implementation and Evaluation was launched by Chief Secretary, J Alam, IAS at Administrative Training Institute, Kohima on 14 November.
Bureaucrats Magazine – The Personnel & Administrative Reforms Department, Nagaland is conducting the five-day State level training in collaboration with St Stephen’s Centre for Advance Learning, St Stephen’s College, New Delhi. The Department of Information Technology & Communication, Nagaland is assisting in the virtual conference session.
