Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, a 1990-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Odisha cadre, currently serves as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha, a position he assumed in August 2024. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Khurania has held pivotal roles in both the Odisha Police and the Border Security Force (BSF).

Before his appointment as DGP, Khurania served as Special Director-General of the BSF Western Command in Chandigarh, where he oversaw critical border security operations along the Pakistan frontier. His tenure with the BSF also included key postings as Inspector General (IG) of the South Bengal Frontier, IG (Personnel), and Additional Director General (ADG) of the Eastern Command in Kolkata.

Within Odisha, Khurania has served in several leadership capacities, including Superintendent of Police in Nayagarh, Jajpur, Rourkela, Mayurbhanj, and Ganjam districts, as well as Deputy Inspector General of the Southern and Northern Ranges. His extensive field experience has been instrumental in bolstering law enforcement operations across the state.

As Odisha’s top cop, Khurania has spearheaded large-scale operations to dismantle illegal cannabis cultivation networks, significantly curbing the illicit trade. His proactive approach against Naxal insurgency has led to the weakening of extremist networks through targeted operations. Under his leadership, Odisha Police has embraced Artificial Intelligence in criminal investigations, streamlining digital arrests and enhancing operational efficiency.

Khurania’s exemplary service has earned him numerous accolades, including the Governor’s Medal, Police Medal for Meritorious Service, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Ati Utkrisht Seva Medal, and Police Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak. His leadership continues to set benchmarks in law enforcement and public service.
