The modern reincarnation of Jhansi Mandal can be credited to the team led by Shri Adarsh Singh, the then Chairman, Jhansi Smart City, and later by Shri Bimal Dubey, ably assisted by Shri Satya Prakash, Municipal Commissioner, Jhansi Municipal Corporation. Their remarkable efforts have brought about a real transformation to Jhansi.
From heritage preservation to adoption of clean transportation; from affordable housing to integrated waste management, the Jhansi Division of Government of Uttar Pradesh today, is a model showcase for administrative excellence that has literally transformed Jhansi into a smart and sustainable city.
According to Jansi’s Municipal Commissioner, Shri Satya Prakash, IAS, who is also the CEO of Jhansi Smart City Limited, “We aim to develop Jhansi into one of the most inhabitable cities in India with all the modern amenities coexisting in harmony with the immense heritage value that this wonderful city represents. Every modern upgrade that we conceive of is aimed to make each and every resident feel even more proud of this great city.”
Whether it is the “Landscaping near Jhansi Fort Vicinity,” or the “Restoration of Old Gates” along with the “Heritage Street Project” genuine efforts have been made by the administration to rejuvenate the historic sites of Jhansi, blending modern amenities with historical architecture.
Among the highlights of the various projects Under the Smart City scheme, the newly built Space Museum in Jhansi has emerged as the talk of the town. With the project cost pegged at Rs. 35 crore presents to the people extremely interesting information and events related to the space in digital form. Apart from the structure of different parts of the universe, major events that happened in the sky are also presented in a special way that thrills each and every visitor.
There is yet another museum dedicated to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand as Jhansi is where the hockey wizard was brought up. For the uninitiated, Major Dhyan Chand is unarguably the best Hockey player India has produced. He brought home three Olympic gold medals in 1928, 1932 and 1936.
A 25-feet-high statue of the hockey stalwart has been installed at this unique digital museum that has been built at a cost of approx. Rs.22.5 crore at Rani Laxmi Bai Park. The hockey stick used by the legend, along with its big replica has been prominently displayed with a ball that was used during his time and differs significantly from the one used today.
Apart from these two prominent projects , several initiatives under the Jhansi Master Plan 2031 are all targeted to make this heritage city become a symbol of infrastructure benchmarks through mixed-use zoning, reduction of urban sprawl and fostering sustainability.
The “Electric Buses” project is aimed at offering a smart transportation system to optimise traffic flow while minimising congestion and pollution. The “Redevelopment of Narayan Bagh” project integrates green spaces through parks and tree-lined avenues, enhancing aesthetics and air quality. “Restoration of Pani Wali Dharmshala” and “Development of Laxmi Taal” projects have rejuvenated water bodies in the city. “Iconic Roads” project reclaims public areas by creating safe and beautified public spaces, creating footpaths and cycling tracks to promote walking and cycling.
With Shri Satya Prakash spearheading these efforts aimed at synergizing heritage preservation, sustainable development, and improved quality of life, there is absolutely no doubt that District Jhansi will soon be positioned as a model for balanced urban growth.
