IAS Prateek Jain is currently serving as the Chief Development Officer (CDO) in the Haridwar district of Uttarakhand.
Every year, countless candidates sit for the UPSC civil services examination, yet not all emerge victorious. Some persevere through multiple attempts in pursuit of becoming IAS, IPS, or IFS officers. Conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the civil services examination comprises three stages: prelims, mains, and a personal interview. Amidst these aspiring individuals, there are those who achieve success in their initial attempts. One such individual who conquered the UPSC CSE examination is IAS Prateek Jain.
Prateek, belonging to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) 2018 Batch, currently holds the position of Chief Development Officer (CDO) in Haridwar district, Uttarakhand. Although his initial attempt in 2016 saw success in the prelims and mains exams, he narrowly missed making it to the final list for IAS. Nonetheless, during the same year, he achieved an impressive rank 3 in the Indian Forest Service (IFoS) examination.
In his subsequent attempt, he successfully cleared the UPSC CSE 2017, securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 86 at the age of 25. Prior to this achievement, he dedicated a year to serving in the Indian Forest Service. Graduating from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, he obtained a B.E. (Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc (Hons.) in Biological Sciences between 2011 and 2016. Furthermore, he pursued a Master’s in Public Management from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in 2020.
Before assuming the role of CDO Haridwar, he held the position of Deputy Collector in the district from December 2019 to August 2020. He also served as Deputy Collector and SDM in Nainital district for nearly two years.
