Many candidates put their careers on the line for this exam, while others leave their established careers to pursue it. Only a few manage to pass and prove their decision right. Today, we will share the story of a candidate who left a job at NASA, took on the challenge of the UPSC exam, passed it, and became an IPS officer.
In 2007, Anukriti passed the IIT JEE exam and enrolled at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata. After graduating, she went to Rice University in the United States. Despite pursuing her degree, Anukriti was also preparing for the civil services exam. Her teachers, considering her science background, advised her to become a scientist rather than pursue the UPSC. Anukriti was even appointed by NASA to conduct research on volcanoes with a salary package of 50 lakh rupees. However, after some time, she returned to India and decided to focus on preparing for the UPSC exam.
First IRS then became IPS. Anukriti had reached the level of the mains exam in her first attempt itself. However, she was not successful. In the second attempt, she couldn’t even clear the prelims paper. But success came to her in the third attempt. She achieved All India Rank 355, after which she was selected for the IRS position. However, she made up her mind to take the exam again, and in her fourth attempt, she improved her rank. This time she secured All India Rank 138 and became an IPS officer.
Husband prepared, turned wife IPS. IPS Anukriti Sharma’s husband, during the exam preparation, supported her as a teacher. Geography was Anukriti’s optional subject and her husband was her tutor throughout this entire journey of the exam. He was like a co-aspirant for Anukriti, who helped a lot in improving Anukriti’s strategy and numbers. Therefore, IPS Anukriti Sharma attributes her success to her husband.
