Meet Ishwarya Ramanathan, one of India’s youngest IAS officers, who has achieved the remarkable feat of cracking the UPSC exam twice before the age of 24. Her All India Rank (AIR) She cleared the 2019 UPSC exam with an All India Rank of 47 when she was 24 years old. Currently, she serves as the Sub-Collector, SDM, in Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvallur.

Each year, thousands of hopefuls sit for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination. Yet, only a fraction advance to the final stage. The success stories of these achievers serve as inspiration for countless others aspiring to ace the exam. Lately, Ishwarya Ramanathan, an IAS officer, has garnered significant attention for her remarkable feat of clearing the UPSC exam twice, each time at the age of 24. This article delves into her journey to success.


Ishwarya Ramanathan stands as one of India’s youngest IAS officers, achieving this milestone by securing the 47th All India Rank (AIR) in the 2019 UPSC exam at the age of 24. Presently, she holds the position of Sub-Collector and SDM in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu.


During a recent interview, Ishwarya disclosed that her aspiration to become an IAS officer stemmed from her childhood dream, which was inspired by her mother. Her mother, who married at a young age and later secured a government job, consistently urged Ishwarya to pursue a career as a collector. Throughout her journey, Ishwarya found immense motivation from her mother’s unwavering support and encouragement.

Originating from the coastal district of Cuddalore, Ishwarya experienced various natural calamities such as floods, cyclones, and heavy rainfall since her early years. The 2004 tsunami, in particular, deeply impacted her, and observing the efforts of Collector Gagandeep Singh Bedi during that period left a lasting impression on her.

Ishwarya completed her engineering degree from Anna University, Chennai in 2017. During her college years, she commenced her preparation for the UPSC exam and sought UPSC coaching. Despite securing the Railway Accounts Service with an All India Rank of 630 in her initial attempt, she resolved to pursue her ambition of becoming an IAS officer.

In her second endeavor in 2019, Ishwarya achieved her aspiration of becoming an IAS officer by clearing the UPSC exam with an AIR of 47.

Besides her professional responsibilities, Ishwarya maintains an active presence on social media, particularly Instagram, where she shares updates and has garnered over one lakh followers. Notably, renowned IAS officer Tina Dabi and her sister IAS Rhea Dabi are among her followers on Instagram.
