IAS officer Rahul Sankanur’s path to success is a powerful reminder that failure is often the key to success, though few possess the courage and patience to endure adversity. Much like the fable of the spider that persistently rebuilds its web after each fall, or the legendary inventor Thomas Edison, who encountered countless failures before inventing the light bulb, Rahul’s journey mirrors these tales of relentless determination. His story is an inspiring example of how perseverance can lead to remarkable achievements.

Rahul Sankanur, a native of Hubli in Karnataka, pursued engineering after high school and initially joined an IT company upon graduation. Despite the allure of a stable and well-paying job, Rahul had bigger ambitions. After two years in the corporate world, he made the bold decision to leave his comfortable position and dedicate himself to preparing for the UPSC exams.

However, the journey was far more challenging than he anticipated. It took Rahul five years and four failed attempts before he finally cleared the exam on his fifth try. The path was arduous, and the pressure was immense, but the unwavering support of his family played a crucial role in helping him persevere.
Throughout his journey, Rahul faced the harsh judgment of those who doubted him, but he remained resolute. With his family’s encouragement, he continued to push forward, keeping his focus on his goal until success was within reach.

Reflecting on his experience, Rahul advises UPSC aspirants to remain steadfast in the face of negativity. He emphasizes the importance of staying focused on the goal and avoiding distractions, particularly from those who may try to demotivate you. For UPSC preparation, Rahul recommends going beyond textbook knowledge. He stresses the need for a well-rounded approach, including staying observant and aware of current events. According to Rahul, overall development is key to success in the UPSC journey.
